C.A.I.N began as a simple Voice Attack profile designed to help friends navigate Star Citizen’s notoriously complex keybind system. It quickly became clear how much it improved their experience, especially for players who didn’t have the time or patience to configure everything manually. That early success pushed us to expand the project with deeper integrations, voice responses, sound effects, and full command over every aspect of spaceflight, including navigation.
We later introduced VR support, enabling players to set destinations and interact with C.A.I.N completely hands-free inside virtual reality. As the project grew, we gave C.A.I.N a distinct personality and expanded its database to support both newcomers and veteran pilots, shaping it into a true in-game companion inspired by the iconic 80s Knight Rider AI, K.I.T.T.
At one stage, we explored building our own standalone voice-command system, but ultimately chose to remain with Voice Attack due to its unmatched flexibility and power. Recognising that many voice packs were difficult to install, we made usability a priority, automating the setup wherever possible and providing clear, step-by-step video guides to ensure a smooth, frustration-free experience.
